CALL FOR ADMISSIONS

I belong to Gujarat, India and I have always been desired to learn new skills. During my pre-doctoral research training in Immunology, I studied the role of signaling cascades in regulation of cellular differentiation and inflammatory response. However, I was more interested to understand epigenetics changes in the nucleus during cellular differentiation. I joined HoMeCell Lab in the Department of Biological Science and Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar. The diverse course work offered at the department enhanced my understanding of the cancer biology and molecular biology. I utilize short courses on Basic Bioinformatics techniques and R language as an opportunity to get first hands on training of NGS data analysis. I further expanded my computational skills by attending independent projects in other departments. Dr. Umashankar Singh, my PhD advisor, have been very supportive and lab environment was full of inspiration. I had been surrounded by depart colleagues with complementary skills. In the later stage of my PhD, I secured the Atlas research travel award which gave me an opportunity participate in EMBO meeting to interact with eminent scientist in the field of epigenetics. I have graduated in December 2020 and joined Applied Tumor Genomics Program at Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki, Finland for postdoctoral research. I am studying the role of transposable elements in gene expression regulation in cancers.

“The M.Tech program at IITGN offered me an exceptional academic journey, fostering a deep understanding of biomedical engineering principles and techniques. Thrilled to have studied and researched at the MUSE Lab, where my work on Doppler ultrasound imaging was truly transformative. Proud to have been part of such groundbreaking research!”
After his MTech thesis with Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar, Hari joined a PhD position at the University of Montreal, Canada.
